Alfa Romeo 8C Spider on a fast track to production?

Alfa Romeo's gorgeous 8C Spider concept supercar took home two of the top awards at the Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance, north of Milan. Thousands of Concours attendees voted for the comely Italian, earning it the BMW Group Design Award and the Villa d'Este Design Award. The Alfa is a drop-top version of firm's 2003-2004 8C Competizione concept.
It's been rumored that the Spyder is being seriously considered for production, and it has also been rumored that Alfa is coming back to the States... maybe the extensive touring (inside the U.S. and worldwide) of the vehicle and the recent awards are two clues as to the validity of the rumors? One can only hope.
